Several major oil producing countries have joined Saudi Arabia in announcing surprise production cuts that could send world oil prices higher.
Saudi Arabia said Sunday it was cutting production by 500,000 barrels per day from May until the end of the year. That represents less than 5% of its average production in 2020.
The United Arab Emirates, Oman, Iraq, Kuwait, Algeria and Kazakhstan all announced similar but smaller reductions, for a total of 1.15 million barrels…

Police in Montenegro have arrested Terraform Labs founder Do Kwon, who is wanted in South Korea in connection with a $40 billion crash of the firm’s cryptocurrency that devastated retail investors around the world, the European country’s interior minister said Thursday.

CHICAGO — Consumers have become increasingly focused on the role food plays in their mental and physical health, according to new research from The NPD Group.
The market research firm said consumers initially grew to care more about their overall health and wellness as a result of the pandemic, with food’s effect on health garnering more attention as the trend has continued. New Democrats and a business group are calling on the federal government to extend the deadline for small businesses to repay loans they receive from a pandemic support program.
But an economist is cautioning against the move, saying taxpayers shouldn’t subsidize businesses that are still struggling to pay back the loans more than three years since the pandemic hit.
The Canada Emergency Business Account program provided about 900,000 small businesses and not-for-profits up to $60,000 in interest-free loans during the pandemic.

Dollarama Inc. enjoyed a 21 per cent year-over-year jump in sales in its latest quarter as the discount retailer scooped up consumers seeking cheaper products amid high inflation.
In the quarter ended April 30, the company said strong demand was held up across the board, from consumables to seasonal items and general merchandise, resulting in a profit boost of 23 per cent from a year earlier.

US safety regulators are investigating possible electrical problems in older Dodge Journeys after a woman was trapped and died when her SUV caught fire in December.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it’s investigating whether inoperative door locks and windows can prevent people from getting out of the SUVs during an emergency.
