Our lives are continuously changing, whether we plan for it or not. Changing jobs or careers, going through a breakup or starting a new relationship, moving to a new city or another country, meeting new people, or letting go of a friendship. Change can often be overwhelming and can leave us feeling confused, lost and disconnected from ourselves. If you’re going through any changes in your life right now (and I bet you do!), read on for 3 different ways to come home to yourself during times of change.
Connecting with Your Body
Our tools are powerful to help us navigate change, but we often neglect them when we’re feeling anxious or overwhelmed and get lost in our thoughts and stuck in our bodies. So, take a few moments each day to connect with your body in a way that works best for you. Try out yoga, dancing, or simply taking a few deep breaths and focusing on how your body feels. When we pay attention to the areas in our body where we feel the most tension and discomfort, we can release this through breathing and movement. As we do this, we’ll start to feel more connected to our body and become more present in the moment, which is essential to releasing any feelings of stress or overwhelm.
Practicing Self-Care
Especially during times of change, it’s important to notice how we take care of ourselves. Make time for things that nourish your soul, whether that’s going for a walk in nature, listening to your favorite music, or curling up with a good book. Make a list of things that make you feel good and bring you joy. I like to call it a “To BE” list instead of a To Do list. Focus on who you want to be and how you want to feel in this moment and make sure you’re doing at least one of those things on your list whenever you feel lost or disconnected. This makes it easier to navigate the changes happening around us.
Tuning into Your Inner Wisdom
Often we tend to look outside ourselves for answers and seek advice from friends or family or turn to social media for a quick fix. However, remember that deep inside of us, we have so much wisdom already and we know exactly what’s best for us. Take a moment to listen to this inner voice, it has something to tell you too. You can connect with it through journaling, meditating, or simply sitting quietly, feeling your energy, and listening to your intuition. As we do this, we’ll start to feel more confident and secure in our own abilities to navigate the changes happening in our lives without having to depend on anyone else.
Change can be scary and overwhelming, but at the same time, it can give us a beautiful opportunity for growth and transformation. Without change, nothing happens! When we learn how to come home to ourselves by connecting with our bodies, practicing self-care, and tuning into our inner wisdom, we’ll be able to stay grounded during even the most challenging times. This place of home within ourselves is the foundation that we always have to navigate the challenges in our journey with grace, confidence and peace of mind.
